I don’t think yesterday’s opening to the NCAA 2011 season brought many surprises. Russell Wilson look spectacular with the Wisconsin Badgers. I was surprised how Kentucky and Syracuse struggled and I thought Idaho might have fared better against Bowling Green.
However, I do think some bigger surprises may be in store for the rest of the weekend. Robert Griffin Jr. has proved that he is one of the nations elite quarterbacks and the staff at Baylor may have finally started to put together a supporting cast. It’s time for Griffin to shine and that all starts tonight with the upset over TCU.
It could be a rough week for the Mountain West. I am also picking the Georgia Bulldogs to topple Mountain West favorite Boise State. The Dawgs return more starters than any other SEC team. Despite lasts years 6-7 campaign, they have the talent to topple some of the nation’s top teams.
I believe Persa will be able to lead Northwestern to a victory over the Eagles of Boston College. I look for Jerry Kill and Marquise Gray to have monumental impact on Minnesota’s future, although, I do not believe they will have enough to get past USC this week (but I’ll be rooting for them). I’ll also take BYU over Ole Miss, Hawaii over Colorado, Army to upset Northern Illinois, Maryland over Mimi, FL (although both will end with disappointing seasons), and without Jordan Jefferson, the Oregon Ducks over LSU. The rest of the Top 25 (and most of the rest of the BCS schools) should easily prevail over Week 1 patsies (no offense ECU, Appalachian State or Youngstown State).
